Biography:

Maaike van der Linde is a flutist, vocalist, composer, and workshop leader. She initially pursued her BMus studies in classical flute with Wieke Karsten and Thies Roorda at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, and she graduated in 2013 with honors with an MMus in Leadership from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Maaike's musical journey combines performing and creating music with leading socially engaged music projects that focus on the connecting and healing power of music. She is a flutist in the European ensemble s t a r g a z e, with whom she performs new music and collaborates with musicians from diverse musical backgrounds. Additionally, Maaike founded the vocal group Vox Sturnus, a collective of six Amsterdam-based female composers who sing and play instruments. They perform each other's compositions as well as works by other composers.
In 2022, Maaike released her debut album, "Circadian," under the name LINDE. The album features her own compositions, performed by herself, James McVinnie (on the church organ of Anloo), Romain Bly (drums), Alistair Sung (cello), and Saied Silbak (ud). The album was produced by Conor O'Brien (Villagers).
Maaike is the artistic director of Art Root Collective, an organization that developed an ongoing music participation program for young musicians with a refugee background. She is also a member of Stichting Mimic, an organization that provides live music at the bedsides of hospital patients.
As an educator, Maaike is affiliated with the Utrecht Conservatory (HKU) and the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen. She teaches courses and projects focusing on music in healthcare and music in various other societal contexts.
As a performing musician, Maaike has played with Dirty Projectors, Terry Riley, Julia Holter, My Brightest Diamond, Poliça, Lisa Hannigan, Villagers, Bryce Dessner, Bon Iver, Deerhoof, This Is The Kit, Iceage, Owen Pallett, Nik Void, The Dodos, Bill Frisell, Grant Hart, Arone Dyer, and many more. She has performed new works by composers Aart Strootman, Morris Kliphuis, Qasim Naqvi, Martin Fondse, Dave Longstreth, Mika Levi, Bryce Dessner, Nicole Lizée, and Greg Saunier.
Maaike frequently performed in the Barbican Centre in London, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Philharmonie de Paris, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam, Volkbühne in Berlin and toured in Europe, The United States, Australia and New Zealand with stargaze.
